Step by step
Change a column and refresh outdated cells
Rename or reword a column's question, then redo only the cells made for the earlier version.

Your questions get sharper as you read. When you change what a column asks, CurTask doesn't quietly redo your matrix: the values already there stay, the AI values made for the old question are marked Outdated, and you decide when to refresh them, seeing the cost first.

Step 1Open the column's menu
In the Columns panel on the left of the matrix, find the column and choose its ⋯ button. Choose Rename or redefine.

Step 2Change the name or the question
In the column's dialog, change the Column name, What should the AI look for? or the Research questions this column serves.
When you change the name or what to look for, the dialog explains: "Changing the name or what to look for changes the question. Values already here stay; AI values made for the earlier version are marked outdated until you refresh them." Choose Save.
Changing only the linked research questions doesn't change the question, so nothing becomes outdated.
Step 3See which cells are outdated
AI values made for the earlier version, Suggested or accepted, now show Outdated in the grid. Opening one says it was made for an earlier version of the column. Values you typed yourself are never outdated: they are yours.
A cell that read No source found answered the old question without a value, so it is emptied (its old answer stays in the cell's history).
Step 4Refresh the outdated cells
Open the column's ⋯ menu again and choose Refresh outdated cells. The sheet tells you how many cells were answered for an earlier version, and the cost. Choose Refresh to redo only those cells; their old values go to each cell's history.
Tip: the same menu lets you Fill column, Move up, Move down or Delete column. Deleting a column keeps its AI answers in each paper's Baggage, so adding the same column again costs 0 credits.
What's next
- Accept, edit or regenerate a value, including History to bring back an older value.
- Improved analysis versions: why CurTask never redoes your work without asking.
