Step by step

Accept, edit or regenerate a value

Check a value's quote in the reader, then accept it, change it, ask again, or bring back an earlier value.

Every value the AI puts in your matrix is Suggested until you accept it. Reviewing a value takes a few seconds: read the quote, look at it on its page if you need to, then decide.

  1. Opening a matrix cell

    Step 1Open a cell

Click a cell in the grid. A panel opens over the grid with the column and the paper, the value, the quote it came from in quotation marks, and a p. chip with its page. At the top you see AI extracted · Suggested and how confident the AI was.

  2. The quote highlighted in the reader, linked to its cell

Step 2Look at the quote on its page

Choose Open in reader → (or the p. chip). The paper opens beside the matrix at that page with the quote highlighted, and a dashed line joins the passage to the cell. This is the fastest way to check that the value means what you think. See The evidence line.

  3. Accept in an open cell

    Step 3Accept it

If the value is right, choose Accept. The panel then reads Accepted, and the ✦ mark in the grid shows it is accepted. Only accepted values count as yours: the writing tools build on them, and a Suggested value cited in a draft stays marked Suggested there.

  4. Editing a value, with Save and Cancel

Step 4Or type your own value

If the value is wrong or incomplete, choose Edit, change the value and choose Save (or Cancel to leave it). The cell becomes Edited by you, with a small pencil. Your own value has no quote from the paper.

  5. The Regenerate this cell? question

Step 5Or ask the AI again

Choose Regenerate to have the AI read the paper again with the column as it is now. It asks first: Regenerate this cell?, and explains that it uses a few credits, priced by the paper's length. The current value is kept in the cell's history.

  6. A cell's history, with Restore beside each earlier value

Step 6Bring back an earlier value

Choose History to see every earlier value of the cell, with its state and when it changed. Choose Restore next to one to bring it back, with its quote. This also undoes an accept or an edit.

Tip: you can accept and edit values offline. They show Saved on this device · will sync and sync when you're back online. Regenerating needs a connection.
