When a paper is a scan, CurTask reads its pages with OCR (optical character recognition). Most pages come out well. When a page is hard to read, for example a faint or crooked scan, CurTask marks it so you can check its text against the page image.
Correcting the text matters: search and AI analysis work from it, and every AI quote must be found word for word on its page.
Step 1Find a paper to review
In your library, a paper with pages to check shows Review OCR in its Status column.
You can also open it from the paper's More actions menu (Review OCR text), from the import sheet, or from the Queue (Open OCR review →).
Step 2Open the review
Choose Review OCR. The Review OCR text page lists only the pages that were read with low confidence (below 85%).
Step 3Compare each page with its image
Each page shows its number (for example Page 3 of 12), how confident the OCR was (for example Confidence 72%), the scanned image of the page, and the text read from it.
Step 4Correct the text
Click into the text and fix what is wrong. Your changes save as you type: you see Saving…, then Saved.
Step 5Mark all reviewed
When you have checked every page, choose Mark all reviewed. CurTask says All pages reviewed. The corrected text is now used for search and analysis.
Tip: if a page is impossible to read even for you, a clearer scan of the paper will give better results.
What's next
- Analyse a paper with AI once its text is right.
- How AI finds evidence: why the exact words on each page matter.
