Expand analysis asks the AI to read a paper and write its profile: a summary with key findings, its methods, sample and context, findings, limitations, theory and framework, and key quotes. You can run it on one paper or on many at once.

Nothing runs until you choose to. You always see the cost first, and anything already in a paper's Baggage is reused at no cost.

  1. Ticking papers shows a bar with Expand analysis

Step 1Open a paper, or select several

To analyse one paper, choose it in your library: its details open beside the list.

To analyse several at once, tick the box at the start of each row. A bar with Expand analysis appears above the list.

  2. Expand analysis in a paper's AI paper profile

    Step 2Choose Expand analysis

In the paper's Overview tab, choose Expand analysis. You find it under No AI summary yet for a paper with no analyses, or beside Not analysed yet: for the parts still missing.

For several papers, choose Expand analysis in the selection bar.

  3. What to analyse and the AI language

Step 3Choose what to analyse and the language

The sheet opens. Under What to analyse, tick the parts you want: Summary, Methods, Sample, Findings, Limitations, Theory and Key quotes.

Under AI language, choose English or Bahasa Melayu. It starts on your project's AI language. Quotes always stay in the paper's own language. See The project's AI language.

  4. The estimate: papers in scope, reused, to compute and the cost

    Step 4Read the estimate

Before anything runs, the sheet says Before this runs, here is what it will cost. It shows:

    • Papers in scope: the papers you chose.
    • Reused from baggage: analyses you already have, at 0 credits.
    • To compute: what is new.
    • Cannot run yet: papers that aren't ready, with the reason.
    • Estimated cost and your balance.

If everything is already in the Baggage, there is nothing to pay and nothing to run.

  5. Step 5Run it, or preview first

Choose Run for to start (the button says how many papers). If you chose more than three papers, you can choose Preview on 3 papers first to check the results on a few before running the rest.

You can close the sheet while it works: the analysis carries on in the Queue, and each part appears in the paper as soon as it is ready. To stop without running anything, choose Cancel.

  6. The AI paper profile, with a page link that opens the reader

Step 6Read the results with their pages and quotes

The results appear in the paper's Overview tab as its AI paper profile, marked with ✦ because the AI wrote it. Each part says Suggested until you accept it: each value has a page link such as p.6. Point at the link to see the quote; choose it and the reader opens at that page with the quote highlighted.

When a part reads right, choose Accept at the end of it, and it says Accepted. Back to Suggested undoes that. Accepting costs nothing and runs nothing again.

When the AI could not find words in the paper to back a value, it shows No source found instead of a guess. When a paper simply doesn't report something, it says Not reported in this paper.
