Importing is how a paper enters CurTask. Each file is read once: CurTask finds its title, authors and year, pulls out its full text page by page, and keeps it in your Global Library, ready for every project.
Importing is free. No AI runs on a paper until you ask for it.

Step 1Open the import sheet
In your Global Library, choose Import (on Home, the button is called Import papers).
The Import papers sheet opens over the page. Everything you import goes into your Global Library, so you can add it to any project later.

Step 2Add your files
Drop your files onto Drop PDFs or documents here, or choose Choose files and pick them from your computer.
You can add more files while the first ones are still being read: drop them in, or choose Add files.

Step 3Choose the OCR language
If some of your papers are scans, set OCR language to the language they are written in: English, Bahasa Melayu, or English and Bahasa Melayu.
Tip: papers with a text layer (most PDFs from a journal) don't need OCR, so this choice only matters for scans.
Step 4Watch each paper get ready
Each file shows its step and progress. A file you already have is not stored twice: it shows Linked existing, and reusing it costs nothing. See Duplicate papers.
Keep the tab open while your papers are read: they are read on your own computer. See Why CurTask asks you to keep the tab open.
You can choose Run in background and carry on working; the Queue keeps track of every file. To learn what each step and status means, see What happens after you import a paper.

Step 5Open a ready paper
When a paper is ready, choose its row in your library. Its details open beside the list, with its Overview, Tags & Notes, Metadata, Baggage and Connections tabs. Choose Open in reader to read the full text.
What's next
- Analyse a paper with AI to get its summary, methods and findings, each with a page and a quote.
- Add papers to a project to start working with them.
