A paper saved with its details only is marked No PDF. When you get its PDF, for example from your university library, add it to the paper. The paper keeps everything it already has (its details, tags, notes and place in your projects) and now gets its full text.

  1. Showing only the papers that have no PDF

Step 1Find the papers without a PDF

In your Global Library, choose Show them in the note about papers that have no PDF, or use the Missing PDF filter in the toolbar. Choose Show all papers to go back.

  2. A paper's Overview with No PDF yet.

    Step 2Open the paper

Choose the paper's row. On its Overview tab you see No PDF yet. and an area called Add this paper's PDF.

  3. The Add this paper's PDF area

    Step 3Drop the PDF in

Drag the PDF onto Add this paper's PDF, or choose choose a file and pick it from your computer.

CurTask shows Checking it matches this paper…, then sends the PDF and reads its text.

  4. Step 4If CurTask says it looks like a different paper

If the PDF's title doesn't match the paper, CurTask says This PDF looks like a different paper and shows the PDF's title. Choose:

    • Attach anyway if it is the right paper after all (for example, a preprint with a slightly different title).
    • Save as a new paper instead to keep the PDF as a paper of its own. The paper without a PDF stays as it was.
    • Choose a different file if you picked the wrong one, or Cancel.

If the PDF is already in your library as another paper, CurTask says This PDF is already in your library. and offers to open that paper.

  5. Step 5Analyse the paper, if you want

When the text has been read, the paper shows Text read and now joins matrices, coding and evidence in its projects. Choose Analyse to run its AI analysis: you see the credits first, and nothing is spent until you confirm. See Analyse a paper with AI.
