Fix a paper's title, authors or year

Correct a paper's details by hand, or look them up again from its DOI and choose which proposed changes to keep.

When you import a paper, CurTask finds its title, authors, year and the rest for you. Sometimes a detail is wrong or missing, and since your citations and reference lists are built from these details, it is worth fixing. You can type the correction yourself, or ask CurTask to look the details up again.

  1. The Metadata tab of a paper

    Step 1Open the Metadata tab

Open the paper and choose the Metadata tab. At the top are the document type (such as Article, Book or Chapter) and Look up details again. Below are the Title, Authors, Journal, Year and the other fields for that type of document.

  2. Typing a correction; it saves by itself

    Step 2Edit a field

Click a field and type the correction. There is no Save button: it saves a moment after you stop typing, and Saved appears at the top.

For authors, type the family name and the given names in their own boxes. Use Add author for another one, the arrows to change the order, and × to remove one.

A field you have edited yourself is marked Edited by you: a lookup never changes it without asking.

  3. Look up details again

Step 3Look up the details again

If the paper has a DOI, choose Look up details again. CurTask searches the research catalogues for it. If the DOI is missing, add it in the DOI field first.

If nothing differs, it says Your details already match what we found. If it finds nothing, it says No match found. Nothing was changed.

  4. The Proposed changes window

Step 4Choose the changes to keep

When it finds differences, the Proposed changes window shows each field with Now and Proposed. Tick the ones you want: fields you edited yourself start unticked, so your own corrections are never overwritten by accident.

Choose Apply to save the ticked changes (the button says how many), or Cancel to keep everything as it is.
