Not everything you cite is a published paper. Interview transcripts, field notes and observation records need to be quoted too, but they have no author, year or reference. In CurTask you can give such a document a label: your writing then shows the label, for example (Interview 3), and leaves the document out of reference lists.

  1. The switch on the Metadata tab

    Step 1Open its Metadata tab

Open the document's details and choose the Metadata tab. Near the bottom, under Keywords, is the switch Cite as a label instead of a reference.

  2. Turning on the switch and typing Interview 3

Step 2Turn on the switch and type the label

Turn on Cite as a label instead of a reference. A Label field appears: type the name you want in your text, such as Interview 3 or Field notes, school B.

Under the field, In the text: shows how the citation will look, for example (Interview 3). It saves by itself. With a page, it reads (Interview 3, p. 4).

  3. Step 3Cite it in your writing

Cite the document in the Writing lens like any other source. It appears as its label in your text, and it is left out of the reference list when you compile. See Write and cite.

  4. Turning the switch off brings back the normal reference

    Step 4Turn it off again

To cite the document as a normal reference again, turn the switch off. Its usual reference comes back in Preview · APA 7 and in your writing.
