The most reliable quote is one you never retype. In Writing, the reader sits beside your draft. Select a passage in the paper and send it into your text: it arrives in quotation marks with its citation, and the citation stays linked to the exact page it came from.

Step 1Open the reader beside your draft
In the Writing lens, open the Reader tab in the panel on the right. On its left, Papers in this project lists your papers by first author and year.

Step 2Choose a paper
Click a paper in the list to open it. Use the page arrows, type a page number, or zoom to find the passage you want.

Step 3Put your cursor where the quote goes
Click in your draft at the place the quote should go. The passage is added there.

Step 4Select the passage and quote it
Select the words in the paper, then press Quote in draft in the reader's toolbar. You can also drag the selected passage straight into your text.
The passage appears in quotation marks, followed by its citation with the page.

Step 5Check the link to the page
Click the citation. The reader highlights the passage on its page, and CurTask draws a dashed line from the citation to it. The citation's small panel also opens, where you can change its page. In the Evidence tab, the paper's card shows the quote and Jump to the page →, which takes you back to the page with the passage highlighted.
This link is called a source anchor. See Source anchors and the evidence line.
What's next
- Cite from the matrix or a paper's details.
- Check my citations to ask whether each cited paper says what your sentence says.
