Suggest categories and Link all with AI

On paid plans, let AI propose categories, themes and links on the Synthesis Map, then accept only the ones you agree with.

Sorting dozens of codes and linking every theme by hand takes time. On the Student and Researcher plans, the AI can do a first pass for you. It reads your coded passages and proposes categories, themes and links. Everything it proposes arrives marked as a suggestion, and nothing becomes part of your analysis until you accept it.

On the Free plan these buttons carry a Paid plans badge and lead to the plans. Sorting and linking by hand work on every plan. See Plans and paid features.

  1. The Suggest categories button on the Board

Step 1Suggest categories for your unsorted codes

On the Board, the ✦ Suggest categories button shows about how many credits it will use. Press it, and the AI sorts your Unsorted codes into suggested categories and themes. If none of your unsorted codes has coded passages, the button is greyed out and says there is nothing to sort.

It takes about a minute. You can keep working; the suggestions appear on the Board when they are ready, with a note of how many were made. If nothing new is found, nothing is charged.

  2. Step 2Accept or dismiss each suggestion

Suggested categories, themes and code placements are drawn with a dashed outline and marked as suggested. For each one, choose Accept to keep it or Dismiss to remove it. Accepting a category also keeps what it contains.

Select a suggestion to read it in the panel on the right before you decide. You can rename or rearrange it afterwards like anything else on the Board.

  3. Suggest line labels in the Network view for the chosen theme

Step 3Suggest links for one theme

Switch to Network and choose a theme. ✦ Suggest line labels asks the AI how the papers in that theme relate. It looks for quotes from different papers that agree, contradict or extend each other.

The button needs an accepted theme with coded passages in at least two papers.

  4. The Link all with AI sheet showing the themes in scope and the estimate

Step 4Link all themes at once

Link all with AI does the same for every accepted theme in one run. It first opens a sheet that shows what it will cost before anything runs: the Themes in scope, how many are Unchanged since the last run, or already running, how many are left To compute or Cannot run yet, and the Estimated cost. Read it, then press the Start button (it names the number of themes and credits), or choose Cancel.

Themes that haven't changed since the last run are not linked again and cost nothing. If some of your codes are not in a theme yet, the sheet tells you to use Suggest categories first. The sheet also says what is sent: your accepted themes, their codes and coded passages. Your memos and notes never are.

  5. Step 5Review the suggested links

Each suggested link rests on two quotes the AI checked in your papers. In the List, it shows as a dashed chip under both quotes. Open it: the panel says Suggested by AI, names the kind of link and gives the AI's reason. Read the two quotes, then choose Accept or Dismiss. Once accepted, you can change its kind or add a note like any link of your own.
