Memos and notes are never sent to AI
What stays with you only, and exactly what is sent when you ask for help with coding.
Memos are where your thinking happens: half-formed ideas, doubts, links you want to follow up. In CurTask they are yours alone. They are never sent to the AI, whatever you do, on every plan.
Where you write memos and notes
- On a coded passage: select a coded passage and write in its Memo box. It says: "Your own note. Saved as you type; never sent to the AI."
- On a code: in the codebook, choose Edit definition… and write in Memo: "Your analytic notes on this code. Only you see them, and they are never sent to the AI."
- On the Synthesis Map board: categories and themes have a Memo too. See Synthesis map.
- On a paper: your paper notes.
All of them save as you type and stay private to your account.
What is sent when you ask for AI coding
AI coding (on the Student and Researcher plans) needs to know what your codes mean. When you choose Suggest codes, Apply across papers… or Code all papers with AI, CurTask sends, for that request only:
- the text of the papers you chose;
- your code names and their definitions;
- passages you have already coded, as examples to learn from.
Your memos and notes are never part of it. Nothing is sent until you confirm the estimate, and the AI providers never train on your papers. See Suggest codes with AI.
Coding by hand sends nothing to the AI at all.
Memos travel with your codes, not to anyone else
When a paper you coded in one project joins another, you can bring its codes along, and their memos come with them, still private to you. See Bring a paper's codes from another project.
When you send a theme to your writing, you can choose Include my memos as notes. They go into your own draft as "My note: …", still never to the AI.
See it for yourself
