Concept
Private by default: who can see your work
Only you see your papers, notes, codes and writing; your data is stored in Malaysia; here is the one small thing that is shared, and everything that never is.
Your research is yours. In CurTask, everything you put in or make is private to your account from the start. There is nothing to switch on.
Only you see your work
Your papers and their files, the text read from them, your notes, highlights, tags, codes, memos, matrices, themes, manuscripts and AI results are visible only to you.
No other CurTask user can see, search or download them. Projects can't be shared with anyone yet (see Can I share a project?), so there is no setting that could make them public by mistake.
Duplicates are checked only in your own library
When you import a paper you already have, CurTask spots it and links the copy you have instead of storing it twice. This check looks only in your library, never at anyone else's. See Duplicates.
Your data stays in Malaysia
Your account, your files, the text read from them, everything you create and your AI results are stored on CurTask's servers at a data centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Backups are encrypted and kept in Malaysia too.
Some services CurTask uses are outside Malaysia, for example for AI and for sending email. They receive only what they need for their task, as the privacy policy and the sub-processor list explain. For AI, see What is sent to AI, and what never is.
The one thing that is shared: short facts about published papers
Some facts about a published paper are the same for everyone who has it, such as its sample size. When you accept such a value for a paper with a DOI, CurTask may keep that short value and reuse it for another researcher who has the same paper.
A shared fact is only a short number or choice. It never includes your wording, quotes, notes, codes or edits, and never says who you are. It is used for someone else only if its passage is found again in their own copy of the paper. See Shared facts.
What is never shared with other users
- Your papers, their files and their text.
- Your notes and your memos. See Memos stay private.
- Your writing.
- Summaries, quotes, codes, themes and anything you edited.
- Your name and email address.
Keeping your account safe
Turn on two-factor sign-in so a password alone can't open your account, and check which devices are signed in. See Turn on two-factor authentication and Sessions and devices.
Your data, your choice
You can download everything in your account in one file, or delete your account, at any time. See Download all your data or delete your account.
If you attach a screenshot when you send feedback, only the CurTask team sees it. Anonymous usage statistics never include your content, and you can switch them off with Share anonymous usage statistics in Settings → AI & privacy.
