When a draft is ready to share, Compile turns your sections into one file: a Word document for your supervisor, a PDF for a committee, or Markdown or HTML for anywhere else. Your citations are formatted, the bibliography is built, and CurTask checks for loose ends first. Compiling uses no credits.

  1. Pressing Compile at the top of the Writing lens

    Step 1Open Compile

In the Writing lens, press Compile at the top right (or ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+E). The Compile manuscript dialog opens, showing how many sections and words the manuscript has.

  2. Ticking the sections to include

    Step 2Choose the sections

Under Include, tick the sections you want. All and None tick or clear them all at once. Empty sections are left out unless you tick them.

  3. Title page, Table of contents, Bibliography and AI contribution report

Step 3Choose the front and back matter

Under Front and back matter, choose what to add:

    • Title page
    • Table of contents
    • Bibliography, the reference list of every paper you cited
    • AI contribution report, a table of the AI suggestions placed while writing and what you did with each (accepted, edited or rejected)
    • CurTask footer: on the Free plan it stays on; paid plans can remove it.
  4. Choosing DOCX, PDF, Markdown or HTML and the citation style

Step 4Pick the format and citation style

Under Format, choose DOCX, PDF, Markdown or HTML. Check the Citation style; it starts as the manuscript's style.

  5. The things to check before compiling

    Step 5Read the checks

CurTask checks your sections and lists any things to check, for example:

    • sentences with no citation. They compile as written;
    • AI-suggested text you haven't accepted yet. It is left out of the file. Accept it first if you want it in. See Suggested AI text.
  6. Compile DOCX, then Download

    Step 6Compile and download

Press Compile DOCX (the button names the format you chose). When it says Compiled, press Download. Need a change? Edit your draft and choose Compile again.

The compiled file is kept for 24 hours, so download it soon.
