Concept

Your Global Library

Every paper you own is stored once, in one place, and can join any number of projects without being imported again.

Your Global Library holds every paper you have brought into CurTask. Each paper is stored once, here, and from here it can join as many projects as you like. Open it from Global Library in the rail on the left.

One paper, many projects

Most researchers use the same papers again and again: in a thesis chapter, a journal article and a grant proposal. In CurTask you import a paper once. When you add it to a project, the project points to the same paper in your Global Library; nothing is copied.

Everything learned about the paper (its details, its full text, its AI analyses, your tags) travels with it. We call that its Baggage, and reusing it in another project costs nothing.

A project's Library lens shows only that project's papers. Your Global Library shows them all. See Add papers to a project.

What the list shows

Each row is one paper, with a star, its title, authors, year, venue, tags, notes, its Status, its number of pages, the size of its stored file and the date it was Added.

  • Search titles, authors and DOIs with the search box.
  • Filter by status (All statuses, Queued, Processing, Needs attention, Text incomplete, Ready, Failed), by tag, or show the papers that are Missing PDF.
  • Sort by title, authors, year or date added by choosing the column heading.
  • Open a paper's details by choosing its row.

The Status column shows where a paper is on its way in. See What happens after you import a paper.

Working with many papers at once

Tick the box beside papers to select them. A bar appears above the list with Expand analysis, Refresh outdated, Add to project, Tag and Delete. See Organise with tags and stars and Analyse a paper with AI.

Tip: press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) to search your library and run these actions by typing.

Ways to bring papers in

A paper can also be saved with its details only, without a PDF. See Papers without a PDF.

Private by default

Your Global Library is yours alone. No one else can see your papers, text, notes or analyses, and CurTask never compares your files with anyone else's. See Private by default.
